Handmade Christmas: Make a Star Decoration

Its the last Maker Monday before Christmas...

As something special, why not make this me-made star decoration to add to your Christmas Tree?

A free pattern and instructions are below for you to follow.

You can also take a look at the other Christmas Decorations that I've released over the years in my 'Me-Making Christmas' section on my Learn to Sew page.

How to Make:
1: Using the free pattern, cut around the paper outer and inner star shapes.
2: To make a contrast colour star, you will need 2 different coloured pieces of felt. Pin your pattern pieces on the felt and cut around them. You will need 2 pieces of each shape cut in 2 different coloured felt.
3: Arrange the inner star on top of the outer one. Pin in place.
4: Select any thread you like and sew the inner star shape to the outer one. Although I used a slip stitch, you can use any stitch you like.
5: Place both sides of the out star together. The inner star pieces you have just sewn on to each side should be facing outwards. Pin in place. Pick a point to start and sew the 2 sides of the outer star together with a slip stitch or running stitch all the way around the outside. Remember to tie a knot in your thread at the start and the end so your stitches don't come loose!
6: Lastly, cut 20cm of thin ribbon. Join the 2 ends of the ribbon together and sew the ends to a point of the star with a few small stitches.
