V&A Dundee: Re-Thinking Fashion Series - In Conversation - Phoebe English & Charles Jeffrey

I really enjoyed the in (virtual) conversation event with Phoebe English and Charles Jeffrey last night. This talk was part of a 3 day event for the V&A Dundee's Re-Thinking Fashion series.

It was great to hear about the zero-waste techniques and the utilising of handcrafted skills in their respective garments. Phoebe discussed how she asks her manufacturers for her waste materials back so she can reuse them; and i really liked the hand-made project that Charles set his interns during lockdown - its resulted in some unique and original pieces.

Its important to consider the alternative ways we can create garments that still have a creative edge but don't harm or pollute the environment at all or as much as mass-produced garments.

Re-Fashion Series: Project 5

Adding to my re-fashion projects is this Zara top. I bought this in Barcelona years ago (left) and sadly, it didn't fit right; so i finally had some time to rework the shoulders so it fit better.

I found with the thin halterneck-style straps around the neck didn't give the support the rest of the top needed, and felt some stronger shoulder panels would be better and more comfortable.

I love that i can now wear it! Yay! Customising and upcycling at it best - much better than throwing it away or donating it!

D is for Darts from the Little Dictionary of Fashion by Christian Dior.

According to Dior, they are extremely important to the cut of the dress (true) and you should avoid making them too big as this looks ugly (very true!).
