Throwback: Betsy Bradley - 'Chasing Rainbows'

I popped into the Ikon Gallery recently and saw this wonderful exhibition by Betsy Bradley recently.
This is her first major solo exhibition and features a number of colourful pieces and installations. In this series of works she "explores painting as a life force that traces the 'dance between thought and action'".
The pieces are painted onto voile and organza, and use transparency and light to enhance the colours of the work. There is something very playful about the work as there are a number of things in the centre of the spaces to walk around and appreciate from all angles.

I particularly wanted to sit in the fabric swing in the middle of the room, but i'm sure that would be frowned upon!

I found the work very expressive; almost graffiti-like that appeared free-spirited and fun to look at.

Have you seen Betsy's work?

Take a look at the photos below to see some of the pieces on show.

Springtime

A lovely throwback to a recent walk and these fabulous florals and colours.

Spring is a great time to see all the flowers in bloom; nice to have a bit of colour around too!

Testing a 'Vintage Style Dress' for an upcoming workshop

Coming up in July, I will be be running my 'Making a Vintage Style Dress' workshop at MAC Birmingham.

To prepare (and work through any pattern problems!), I've started to test one of the dress styles that are recommended for the class.

This one is a Simplicity 1950s Vintage Dress; style 8085; a wrap around dress with a 'V' back and a circle skirt.

The pattern is getting some major adjustments so i will be doing a test garment to check the fit; always a good idea if you make a lot of changes to a pattern.

There are still some places left on the course; click here to book your place
