Maker Monday: The Bookshelf

Hello Monday Makers...

what sewing and pattern cutting books sit on your shelves?

This is a very small collection of what i've collected.

If i'm honest, i'm a bit of a book hoarder and probably have 10 times this amount in sewing, pattern cutting and fashion books!

In this section, we have Winifred Aldrich - an absolute must for anyone wanting to pattern cut; the pattern magic books by Tomoko Nakamichi - an utter joy to look at; some crafting books from Cath Kidston and a mixture of basic sewing technique books...some from the Great British Sewing Bee.

Amazon sell a lot of these books but you can also find some great ones at The Works as well.

'Love looks not with the eyes': A tribute to Alexander McQueen by Anne Deniau

 For Fashion Friday...

'Love looks not with the eyes' by Anne Deniau

A stunning photography book of her 13 years with Alexander McQueen.

Take a peek at the book below:

Maker Monday: Clothing Repairs

 Hello Monday Makers!

How many clothing repairs are you up to?

This is probably 100 and something...but at least it keeps it out of landfill for a bit longer!

The Little Dictionary of Fashion: K is for...

...Key to good dressing.
It seems it all boils down to simplicity, grooming and good taste!

Some vintage fashion advice from Christian Dior.

Maker Monday - Work in Progress

Does anyone else's work in progress pile look like this?

Patterns started, finished, incomplete, fabric swatches, samples of interlining, sketches of project ideas...the list is endless!

I will get around to them...(she says) or at least create a better filing system! 😁

Throwback: The Human Document Exhibition

A few years ago i visited The Human Document exhibition at the Warwick Arts Centre.

A couple of highlights from the exhibit were these stunning photographs by Dorothea Lange, documenting households recovering from the great depression in America.

'Destitute pea pickers in California, Age 32, from Nipomo (1936)'
'Woman in Relief, Memphis, Texas (1937)'

Maker Monday: Mending

I do love a good mending moment to make clothes last just that little bit longer.

A couple of hidden patches behind the frayed sections should make them last for a while.

Its a good idea when patching to try and do the patches on a sewing machine as they will be more secure. However, as these were children's jeans, its impossible to get inside the trouser legs, therefore, I stitched them with a secure backstitch and thicker thread instead.

An alternative is to stick them in place with Bondaweb if you need additional strength.
