About Last Night...BCU Private View

Its that time of year again when we celebrate the hard work of our final year students.

The private view for Birmingham City University was last night and it was great to see all the hard work of their collections.

First up...Fashion Design.

Take a sneak peek of the videos above to see the amazing projects that they've created this year.

Maker Monday - Mending...again!

I'm sure this is a familiar site to you all...the favourite jumper, old with wear, getting holes which keep getting bigger!

I try really hard not to throw anything away, so I handstitched the holes closed after darning the edges to prevent them fraying further.

Another piece saved from landfill.

Sewing Saturday at MAC Birmingham: Intro to Pattern Cutting

It was another great class at MAC Birmingham on my Introduction to Pattern Cutting course.

This one day workshop focusses on taking precise custom measurements and drafting a skirt block pattern from step by step instructions.

We spent the morning measuring and drafting...Its always really important to take accurate measurements. Otherwise it will throw the pattern off and can be difficult to remedy.

After drafting, we created a quick calico toile to test the fit. Any alterations were pinned and marked in felt pen, then transferred back to the original pattern to amend.
The final finish of creating and adding a facing pattern was the last step.

Everyone did wonderfully well yesterday; the fit was very close on all of the patterns so no major amendments were needed.

Thank you to everyone who came; it was so lovely to see some familiar faces as well 😊

There is one more course left for the 2022 MAC calendar: my 2 day Make a Vintage Style dress workshop. If you would like to find out more about this class, click on this link
Please note, this course will be spread across 2 Saturdays in July - The 16th and the 23rd

Commuter Findings

At my local train station, these large prints have been added to the windows of one of the platforms. A nice addition of graphics and colour to brighten the morning commute.

It doesn't say who its by...if you happen to know who created it, let me know!
