Throwback: Kaleidoscope Installation at Carnaby Street

A throwback to December…

Did you visit Carnaby Street at Christmas to see their Kaleidoscope Installation?

Over 600 butterflies are suspended along the street in 2D and 3d forms; sparkling beautifully when illuminated. I visited both during the day and later in the evening, and I have to say…seeing them at night was so much better! The sequins, glitter and reflective materials all shimmer when the lights are on, making it magical to walk under.

The installation is in collaboration with the charity ‘Choose Love’, hence the logo/ words appearing throughout the display. They hope to highlight the needs of refugees around the world, and support and raise funds for this important cause. They were recently sold to raise money for Ukraine crisis fundraiser.

I have always had an affinity with butterflies. Their delicate beauty; their colours; their ability to bring hope and transform make them a powerful symbol to many, and an excellent choice to use in an installation for a great cause.

Haven’t seen them yet? Don’t worry…you can take a virtual tour of them over on the Carnaby street website: https://www.carnaby.co.uk/carnaby-kaleidoscope/
