M is for Materials in The Little Dictionary of Fashion by Christian Dior.
He encourages care when selecting materials (complete agree!). The wrong choice can 'ruin the best design'; pick a good colour, and look at the weight and texture to ensure its suitable for the garment style.

Some vintage advice i agree with from 1954.
