Those who have followed my making journey for a while will know i love a me-made gift.
Todays post is a special Maker Monday edition to share the gifts i made (now that i have been able to give them out!).
A very close friend recently gave birth to twins and to commemorate the occasion, i made some initial letter pillows for the babies. I did the same for their eldest child and wanted to do something 'similar but different' for them.
Using soft fabric remnants, i collected lots of tonal shades to compliment each other and provide different textures. Nothing new was bought to make the pillows; everything was already in my fabric stash.
A small personalised label for each one was added to the back using permanent fabric marker. I have blocked out their names in the photos.
To make the pillows even more eco and sustainable, the filling was made from left over fabric from my recent makes that was diced up using a rotary cutter.
I saw this hack on Instagram recently and it was a game changer! why i had previously spent ages cutting the fabric remnants with scissors I don't know?! i used a cutting mat and a couple of fabric layers at a time to cut them into strips. The smaller size makes the off cuts easier to use as stuffing for pillows and toys rather the keeping the larger remnants in their original size. They're much softer too!
Alongside these, i didnt want to leave out their eldest child so make a quick miniature tote bag, also from fabric remnants. You may recognise the burgundy fabric as offcuts from a certain Christmas Eve-placemat project! 😉 The inner lining is wipeable and the ribbon and initial decoration pulled together from other things i already had.
Have you made any handmade gifts for friends? 😊
