Let the countdown commence!

Summer Adventures

Since the last set of courses, I took a little break and went travelling.

On my adventures, I visited Valletta in Malta, Dubrovnik and Zadar in Croatia, and Venice in Italy.
Dubrovnik, Croatia
Dubrovnik was very picturesque. The city walls and the old town are definitely worth a visit if you're travelling in Croatia. Don't let the dark tones of the photograph fool you-It was 30 degrees here!

Venice, Italy
Venice in Italy was truly beautiful and probably my favourite place to visit on this trip. A friend had recommended a number of places to see on my short stop here and I enjoyed seeing all of the landmarks. I really enjoyed taking a vaporetta through the Grand Canal as you can see everything better from the water. Lorenzo Quinn's exhibition 'Support' is also definitely a must see.

Zadar, Croatia
Zadar in Croatia was a beautiful town that appealed to my inner creative as there were lots of craft shops and artisan stored selling handcrafted gifts and momentos.

The mode of transport: P&O Cruises . Oceana
You may have wondered how I got to visit all of these places in such a short space of time. This lovely ship became my temporary home for a week and sailed smoothly around the Mediterranean showing me some fabulous sights along the way.

Valletta in Malta
The final stop of the holiday was Valletta in Malta. Having visited this city a few years ago, it was nice to see how it had developed. One of the key changes is the development of the new parliament building by Renzo Piano. The food is also makes the visit worthwhile as it's amazing. If you're passing through, a visit to Rubino's is a must! Their food is superb :)

A busy few weeks...

I'm now into the Spring/ Summer season courses at MAC Birmingham and The Sewing Cafe.

Over the last few weeks, I've taught pattern cutting classes at both locations and sharing knowledge, hints and tips about drafting skirts and trousers, and also how to get the fit right!
I've also shared my love of upcycling in my Introduction to Clothes Alteration Course where we repaired, recycled, customised and redesigned old and unused clothes.
And last Thursday, there was also a pattern adjustment evening class at the Sewing Cafe where we discussed full and small bust adjustments, and the processes behind dart manipulation.

It has most definitely been busy!

But before I head off for a Summer break, there's still time to come along to my Intermediate Sewing course this weekend at MAC. Or if you have children looking for something creative to do in the May half term holiday, come along to my Introduction to Sewing Classes for Juniors and Young People at MAC next week! There's only a few places left on the Juniors class, so book your place quickly to avoid missing out!

Take a look at some of the wonderful creations created in my classes below and head over to the Press & Student Feedback page to see what some of my students have been sharing on social media.

Pattern Drafting and Adjusting with The Sewing Cafe

As we approach the end of March, it brings the end of another pattern drafting-skirt/ trouser workshop.
The trousers made by all who attended the three fortnightly sessions look fantastic and hopefully have introduced more people to the wonderful world of pattern cutting! Here's a sneak peek of the pieces that were made...

If you missed this course, don't worry! Due to popular demand, another course has been added in on Saturday 8th, 22nd April and 6th May. To book your place, head over to The Sewing Cafe's website: http://www.thesewingcafe.co.uk/pattern-drafting-starting-with-the-skirt/

Alongside the pattern drafting sessions, I also delivered a pattern adjustment workshop, addressing the dreaded and much feared full and small bust adjustments and dart manipulation. Working on small scaled bodices, I explained the theory of completing these adjustments successfully, so hopefully its no longer a scary prospect for those who came along!

If you would like to learn how to make bust adjustments and dart manipulation changes to commercial patterns, come along to the 3 hour session on Thursday 18th May, 6.30-9.30pm. To book your place, head over to The Sewing Cafe's website: http://www.thesewingcafe.co.uk/pattern-alterations-bust-adjustments/
