I'm finding its all about the details on this dress...
Pockets (got to have pockets in a dress!), contrast pattern binding, ribbon detailing at the hem and I love a good bow!
Its takes a bit of time but gives a great finish.

Maker Monday - The 1950s Vintage Dress continues...
Have you ever looked in your fabric stash...thought, yes, this will look great in this shape, not thinking about all the prep that needed for it?
This is very much my world at the moment!
My vintage dress journey now involves reinforcing the seams with fusible interlining 😕
The linen can (and does) stretch despite it being fully prepped, so i have cut stirpes of fusible interlining and ironed them to my edges to reinforce them. Its has the same effect as stay-stitching but can give stability for longer.
Hopefully it should be finished in time for my workshop on Saturday!

Sewing Sunday - More vintage samples!
In further preparation for my making a vintage style dress workshop next Saturday, i'm now working ont he next sample...this lovely 1950s wrap dress.
I've sampled it in a lovely blue linen from Pound Fabrics.
The fabric wasn't wide enough for the huge circle skirt so i needed to add some seams in to get it to fit. I also want to add pockets - no dress is complete without pockets!

Sewing Saturday: Binding
Love a sewing Saturday 😀
The binding is finally on the 1960s vintage dress ready for next weeks workshop at MAC Birmingham.
A bit fiddly (as it a bit too thin) but works a treat and makes the blue stripes of the fabric stand out more. Will share the final make soon along with the other vintage project i've been working on.

BCU Teaching and Learning Conference 2022
I had such a great day participating in the Birmingham City University Teaching and Learning Conference today alongside Karen Nutton, Liz Burton, Dean Fallon and Michelle Wetherell.
The sessions were extremely interesting and thanks to the team for the positive vibes when delivering our talk. Lunch was epic too! 😉

Maker Monday: The 1960s dress continues...
I'm continuing with my 1960s dress for my upcoming 'Make a Vintage Style Dress' workshop at MAC Birmingham.
This lovely stripe fabric has a bit of a stretch to it so i've reinforced the seams with bias cut interlining.
Lots of pins to go around the curves but its starting to come together.
