Sewing invisible zips can be a challenge, but there are some simple tricks that you can apply to avoid the dreaded bumps and exposed teeth.
Take a look at this demo video for help.
*Thanks to Sudeshna for the filming and Janet for the request 😊
Top Tips:
- You can iron fusing (aka Vilene/ Fusible Interlining) to the wrong side of the fabric on each side of the zip to reinforce the fabric. This isn't always needed but helps to stabalise the material when sewing.
- I used pins to hold my zip in place (i'm a lazy sewer! 😆), but please feel free to tack your zip in place so it doesn't move as you sew.
- Aim to sew on a 3-3.5 length stitch - there is nothing worse than trying to unpick a zip with a tiny seam allowance!
- No method of sewing in an invisible zip is wrong! If it works for you, sew using that method - things don't have to sewn in a 'traditional' way.
