G is for Green and Grey in The Little Dictionary of Fashion by Christian Dior
According to Dior, both look elegant but it appears there is a right and wrong shade of grey depending on your size...good advice from 1954.
Although making the bias binding took forever, it does look very nice on the edges of my new top.
Continuing my me-made make with the finishing touches - a recycled button and a good iron should do it.
‘The Hill we Climb’ - stunningly beautiful words delivered at yesterday’s inauguration by the first US National Youth Poet Laureate . (🎥 reposted from AJPlus)
Watch her full poem here...its absolutely incredible.
One of my pattern cloned tops is starting to take shapes.
Key edges have been overlocked now to join the shoulders before adding the dreaded binding!
From this...to this!
I made the crazy decision to use all of the remnants of the recently cut fabric to make bias binding. Very labour intensive and took forever!! On the plus side though...its very eco as there is zero waste! You know i look to be sustainable and eco ;)
Its all ironed through a bias maker tool (which can be bought relatively cheaply from Amazon) and its now ready to go...when i've recovered!
For this weeks Maker Monday, i thought i'd share some of my fabric stash (there is way more than this to use up i promise you!).
Finally getting around to using my Un Peu de ci Un Peu de ca fabric that i picked up in Granville in France last year, and thinking about what contrasting colours to pair them with. I only picked up some half metre remnants so i will need to be creative with seaming and panels for the makes.
The next questions is what pattern to make!? Decisions decisions!
PS: Those who know me will notice that there is a lot of colour in here! Temporarily moving away from my monochrome colour way for once :D
*You can take a look at Un Peu de ci's website here, and follow them on instagram on: @cecileunpeudeci
So...
This pattern has been in my stash for quite a while and I've always loved the pleat detail on the shoulder; and for this weeks sewing Sunday, i thought I'd give it a try.
Glad I did a toile first...how can one commercial pattern cause so much havoc? See the before and after below to see how much. On to toile number two i think.
And now onto my next pattern cloning project!
This is one of my favourite French Connection jumpers, and i want to clone it to make in different colours. I think this could look great in a navy rib knit...or maybe a grey?
Any recommendations for fabric and where to buy?
For this weeks maker monday, my jersey pattern cloned piece is finished!
As always, theres a few things i'd change (more because im picky rather than anything being wrong with it!) but not bad for a non-toiled top.
Take a look at the photos below to see it alongside the original.
Now to tackle one of my fave jumpers to clone as well.
You know its a serious sewing sunday when both the overlocker and the sewing machine are out! Even if i have had to rethread my overlocker 3 times :/
Finally finished my jersey pattern cloning piece - will share for maker monday tomorrow
